Practical Management of Food Allergies in Children
Date: 9th December 2009
Audience: Dietitians
This event was held for the first time in December 2008 and will be repeated in late 2009. It is a unique collaborative study day run in partnership with Imperial College, specifically designed for dietitians by dietitians. The programme is also supported by doctors from the UK’s two largest Allergy centres. All areas related to practical nutritional management of the food allergic child are covered by a host of eminent speakers from around the UK. The aim of this year’s study day is to provide an overview of the patient’s journey from diagnosis to treatment incorporating a multidisciplinary approach. Delegates will learn how to interpret allergy tests, implement elimination diets, choose hypoallergenic formulae and finally how to monitor tolerance. The emphasis of this day is on “practical management” and we are aiming to provide dietitians with all the necessary information to manage the child with food allergies.
This course will be held at Guys & St Thomas Hospital

Practical Allergy for Nurses
Date: October 30th 2009
Audience: Dieticians, Nurses
As well as a large faculty of doctors, KCL’s partner trusts also employ 11 specialist allergy nurses as well as asthma and dermatology specialist nurses. Currently, there is virtually no provision for the many respiratory and other nurses looking to develop their understanding and practise of allergy, despite the marked growth of membership of allergy interest groups within the BSACI and RCN. This study day will provide a generic introduction into the basics of allergy practice followed by an afternoon separating out Paediatric and Adult nurses to develop more practical skills in smaller groups.

Immunotherapy Practical Workshop
Date: October 7th 2009
Audience: Allergy Specialists, GPs, Hospital Doctors, Paediatricians
There has been a huge growth of interest in this emerging area of allergy treatment but the biggest barrier to the development of new services is the inability of potential practitioners to obtain hands on experience in its use. This workshop will cover generic aspects of immunotherapy in a morning session (including mechanisms, safety and service development issues) and then split into 2 groups to cover practical aspects on Adult and Paediatric practice.
