Adverse Reactions to Vaccines Seminar
Date: Thursday, March 11th 2010
Audience: The seminar will be presented at a professional i.e. medical level and will be suitable for Doctors and Nurses who practice in the field of Child health.
Since Dr Edward Jenner's first use of the smallpox vaccination in 1796 there have been many advances in both the science and provision of vaccination. Indeed, the discovery of Immunisation has significantly improved child health and has enabled the global eradication of smallpox, the elimination of poliomyelitis from the Western hemisphere and major reductions in the incidence of other vaccine-preventable diseases.
Immunisation remains a basic human right. All children, particularly those at highest risk from the preventable disease, should have access to safe and effective vaccination.
The aim of the Adverse Vaccine Reaction Seminar is to:
• Provide an overview of contemporary immunisation schedules
• Detail perceived and real risks associated with contemporary vaccines.
• Describe techniques for vaccine administration to patients at increased risk of adverse reactions, including the allergic patient, elderly, and immunocompramised.
• Controversies around vaccines not routinely provided in the UK Immunisation Programme
• The above issues will be addressed by National and International leaders in the field.
CPD accreditation will be applied for.

Date: Tuesday, 13th July2010
Whilst guidelines have helped improve the care of asthma, many patients still present a number of different challenges. In everyday practice, many factors, such as adherence, co-morbid allergic disease and environmental exposures may all effect how effective recommended treatments are. The last few years have also seen a number of new treatment modalities such as Sublingual Immunotherapy and Anti-IgE become available yet they are still to find their place in treatment.
This one day seminar will bring together many of the UK’s leading specialists to provide a practical, cutting edge programme to help ensure you are providing the most up to date advice to your patients. The morning session will deal with more generic issues whilst the afternoon will be split between those who look after predominantly adults or those with more paediatric involvement.
This course would be suitable for anybody who sees patients with asthma in their
day to day practice. It will be of particular benefit to respiratory/general physicians, Paediatricians, GPs, specialist nurses, as well as speciality registrars.
CPD accreditation from the RCP/RCPCH has been applied for.
In recognition of its educational value, the course has been endorsed by the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Practical Management of Food Allergies in Children
(in partnership with Imperial College)
Date: Tuesday 23rd November 2010
Audience: Dietitians
This event was held for the first time in December 2008 and is now going into its third year. It is a unique collaborative study day run in partnership with Imperial College, specifically designed for dietitians by dietitians. The programme is also supported by doctors from the UK’s two largest Allergy centres. All areas related to practical nutritional management of the food allergic child are covered by a host of eminent speakers from around the UK. The aim of this year’s study day is to provide an overview of the patient’s journey from diagnosis to treatment incorporating a multidisciplinary approach. Delegates will learn how to interpret allergy tests, implement elimination diets, choose hypoallergenic formulae and finally how to monitor tolerance. The emphasis of this day is on “practical management” and we are aiming to provide dietitians with all the necessary information to manage the child with food allergies.
This course will be held at Guys & St Thomas Hospital
